A painting by the Algerian artist Baya Mahieddine (1931-1998) At age sixteen she was invited to the home of Pablo Picasso so that he could observe her as she scuplted clay. While he is famous for his quote “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child” the influence of this Kabyle woman on his work is rarely mentioned.
